RASHID AL KHALIFA
In this exhibition we explore the work of Rashid Al Khalifa, a leading voice in contemporary Bahraini art. Known for his bold material choices and refined spatial awareness, Rashid’s practice spans decades and reflects a consistent engagement with light, form, and perception. Born in Bahrain in 1952, his early education in the UK exposed him to both Western techniques and modernist thinking—an influence that continues to shape his artistic language. Though he began with traditional painting, Rashid’s practice evolved rapidly, incorporating aluminium, enamel, and more recently, paper—each medium offering new ways to engage the viewer. His Spectrum and Mobile Columns series are particularly notable, reflecting his fascination with optical play and the boundaries between object and environment. Now, his new works on paper bring that same sensibility into a quieter, more contemplative realm—layered, detailed, and full of spatial nuance. Exhibited internationally and instrumental in championing Bahraini art, Rashid Al Khalifa remains a vital figure in the cultural landscape—both at home and on the world stage.
